Maturity Stages Overview

Stages and Dimensions

Description

The model comprises five progressive stages:

Reactive

Organizations progress through five maturity stages, each representing a higher level of supply chain risk management capability.

Aware

Proactive

Integrated

Resilient

Each stage is evaluated across three core dimensions:

People

Each stage is assessed based on how well People, Process, and Technology are developed and aligned within the organization.

Process

Technology

Assessment Structure

The assessment covers four pillars, each with targeted question sets designed to assess current practices:

1. Multi-Tier Visibility & Mapping

Objective: Assess visibility and data quality across Tier 1 and sub-tier suppliers.

Key Themes:

  • Tier 1 site mapping & emergency contacts
  • Alternate site identification
  • Centralized contact repositories
  • Sub-tier (Tier 2/3/N) mapping
  • Critical sub-tier aggregation risks
  • Internal site risk mapping

Sample Questions:

  • Do you proactively map your Tier 1 supplier site locations and activities?
  • Have you mapped sub-tier supply chains covering at least 80% of your high-risk suppliers?

2. Business Continuity

Objective: Evaluate the rigor of your BCP processes and how they tie into supply chain mapping.

Key Themes:

  • Collection and review of BCPs
  • Integration of BCPs into scorecards
  • Sub-tier BCP collaboration
  • Periodic audits and testing
  • Quarterly supplier reviews

Sample Questions:

  • Do you collect BCPs at the supplier manufacturing site level?
  • Do you perform routine BCP audits to test critical supplier capabilities?

3. Event Monitoring & Command Control

3.a. 24x7 Event Monitoring

Objective: Gauge real-time monitoring and event response capabilities.

Sample Questions:

  • Do you have a system for continuous monitoring of global supply chain disruptions?
  • Do you have documented SLAs in contracts requiring supplier event notifications?

3.b. Command & Control Tools

Objective: Assess infrastructure and governance readiness to respond to crises.

Sample Questions:

  • Do you have a war-room or digital equivalent for emergency response?
  • Are you able to identify impacted parts within 24 hours of an event?

4. Proactive Risk Protection

Objective: Determine how well risk is being managed through governance, planning, and education.

Key Themes:

  • Risk governance teams and executive reporting
  • Mitigation programs and risk tolerance thresholds
  • Integration with product design, insurance, and enterprise risk
  • Training and education of sourcing/procurement teams

Sample Questions:

  • Do you have quarterly mitigation targets to reduce risk?
  • Do you engage with insurance providers to evaluate and increase coverage?

Scoring & Evaluation

Each question is mapped against the 5-stage maturity model to help:

  • Benchmark customer capabilities
  • Identify gaps across visibility, continuity, and response readiness
  • Recommend best practices for advancement to the next maturity stage

Using the Assessment

  1. Conduct Assessment: CSM conducts guided interviews using the provided questionnaire.
  2. Capture Inputs: Responses are documented on the portal under “Access SCRM Maturity”.
  3. Analyze Maturity Level: Responses are automatically scored to assign a maturity level (Reactive → Resilient).
  4. Review Insights: Collaborate with the customer to review current maturity and next-step opportunities.
  5. Create Roadmap: Formulate a tailored action plan aligned with the desired maturity journey.

Conclusion:

The Access SCRM Maturity Assessment is a foundational step in helping organizations future-proof their supply chains. It provides actionable insights into how they can evolve from a reactive posture to a resilient and strategically aligned supply chain risk management practice.
