A single point of failure is a system component whose failure can render an entire system unavailable or unreliable. It is invariably singular in a physical or virtual location and can have repercussions which extend far beyond an individual organization, for example to unsuspecting stakeholders such as an organization within that industry or the economic and social well-being of an entire country.
