Why am I unable to open Excel (.xlsx) attachments received via automated Resilinc emails?

  • In some cases, Excel attachments sent through automated Resilinc notification emails may not open directly when clicked. This is not due to an issue with the Excel file itself, but rather how the attachment is handled during email delivery.
  • Although the file is correctly generated in .xlsx format, certain email clients or security systems may incorrectly interpret the attachment type when the email is received. As a result, the file may appear corrupted, blocked, or fail to open when accessed directly from the email.
  • This behaviour is commonly influenced by:
    • Email security or anti-virus policies
    • Email clients misinterpreting the file type during download
    • File handling restrictions applied during email delivery
  • Recommended Workaround to access the attachment successfully:
    • Save the file locally to your system instead of opening it directly from the email
    • Confirm that the file extension is .xlsx
    • Open the file using Microsoft Excel via Right-click → Open with → Excel
  • In most cases, following these steps allows the file to open normally.
  • If the issue persists even after saving the file locally, it may be due to stricter organizational email security controls. In such scenarios, accessing the same information through an alternate format or directly within the application (if available) is recommended.
  • This behavior does not indicate data corruption—the attachment content itself remains intact.
