Why are Products in Product Hierarchy used for sourcing scenarios when Part Sourcing and BOM tabs contain the actual material data?

Created by Atif Ikramuddin, Modified on Tue, 21 Apr at 6:32 PM by Atif Ikramuddin

  • The Part Sourcing tab shows which suppliers provide each part, and this data determines whether a part is single-sourced, multi-sourced, or sole-sourced.

  • The BOM tab shows which parts make up each product. Product Hierarchy comes into play for viewing and reporting this sourcing information at a higher level.

  • When you want to see sourcing risks for an entire product family rather than individual parts, the system uses Product Hierarchy groupings to roll up the part-level sourcing data.

  • This lets you understand sourcing risks across your product portfolio without examining each part separately.
